HLTAID001

Our HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course provides the candidate with the skills and knowledge required to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
HLTAID001 - Course Information

Training Content

A list of topics and skills covered in this course:
  • The skills and knowledge required to provide CPR life support
  • Understand how to manage a casualty
  • Management of an incident and other First Aiders until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

Target Audience

People who are required to provide an emergency first aid response in a workplace, or people looking to refresh their CPR to maintain currency in their role.

Course Requirements

The CPR course does not have any prerequisites, entry, work-placement, licensing or certification requirements.
Students are not required to bring any materials or equipment with them to the course. However, we recommend casual clothing, as you will be required to be on the floor during your practical sessions.

Assessment Requirements

To be deemed competent, this Training Package requires you to be physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.

Award issued

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for:
  • HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Re-Certification Requirements

Industry standards do recommend this unit be renewed every 12 months.

Course Duration

  • Full course: 3 hours face-to-face
  • Pre course and Refresher: pre-course study plus 2 hours face-to-face

Pre course study

Participants will be required to read through the 'eBook' provided electronically. In addition, they will be provided with questionnaire to complete prior to attending the face to face component of the course, where they must bring the completed paper questionnaire with them.

HLTAID003

Our HLTAID003 Provide first aid, including CPR course provides the candidate with the skills and knowledge required to respond to a casualty in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course is developed for those who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including sporting, community, workplace and home environments.
HLTAID003 - Course Information

Training Content

A list of topics and skills covered in this course:
  • The basic ethics and theory involved in first aid practice.
  • Basic health and safety knowledge required when dealing with first aid situations.
  • The measures that need to be taken to effectively deal with issues concerning major or minor injury and illness.
  • You will understand the ‘Chain of Survival’.
  • The most important management steps needed to be undertaken when dealing with potentially critical health conditions.
  • How and when an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) should be used.
  • The principles, procedures and standard precautions that need to be undertaken to control infection and its spread.
  • You will learn the skills a First Aider possesses and what limitations you should be aware of when providing first aid.
In addition, the student will learn the first aid management of:
  • Medical conditions: Such as cardiac conditions, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma and other respiratory conditions.
  • Substance misuse: High intake of common drugs and alcohol, including illicit drugs.
  • Awareness of stress management techniques and available support.
  • Injuries: Cold and crush injuries, eye and ear injuries, head, neck and spinal injuries; minor skin injuries; needle stick injuries; soft tissue injuries including sprains, strains and dislocations.
  • Environmental impact: Hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration or heat stroke.
  • Envenomation: From a snake, spider, insect and marine bites/stings.
  • Burns: From thermal, chemical, friction or electrical contact.
  • Other ailments and conditions: allergic reactions, bleeding, chest pain, choking/airway obstruction, fractures, near drowning, respiratory diseases, seizures, shock, stroke, altered or loss of consciousness, causality with no signs of life, excessive intake of poisoning and toxic substances (including chemical contamination).

HLTAID004

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.
It is designed for educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylaxis.

This unit of competency has been approved by Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and meets the requirements of “First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis”.

HLTAID004 - Course Information

Training Content

A list of topics and skills covered in this course:
  • Regulations and definitions of asthma and anaphylaxis.
  • CPR techniques on infants, children and adults.
  • DRSABCD, including the trained use of a defibrillator.
  • Incident reporting in a child care setting.
  • Child Physiology.
  • How to properly assess an emergency situation.
  • First Aid procedures for bleeding, burns and fractures.
  • Managing medical conditions such as epilepsy.
  • Infection control procedures.
  • Legal responsibilities of a First Aider.
  • Managing shock.
  • And more ...

Target Audience

This course is particularly targeted towards those working in the childcare and education industries.
We also strongly recommend this course to families with members who suffer from Asthma and Anaphylaxis.
This course has more in-depth information relating to these ailments compared to the HLTAID003.

Course Requirements

Students are not required to bring any materials or equipment with them to the course.

It is a requirement of this Training Package that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on an adult, child and baby manikin placed on the floor.

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statements of attainment:
  • HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting
  • HLTAID003 Provide first aid
  • HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
